WFW'13

My first fashion week ever was frickin' awesome. From the 3rd to the 7th of April was Wellington's second fashion week which I though was a good opportunity to network and shoot. So I registered etc. and was down for a seated delegate pass which meant sitting front row at every show and getting goodie bags... even though the only thing useful to me in the bags was normally chocolate, Chi or a voucher for shoes.

Designers at WFW'13 included; WORLD, Starfish, State of Grace, Millicent, Trelise Cooper and a ton of others. Being a guy I wasn't hugely interested in the clothes but there were some items where all I could think was "Damn, that is cool." I have a more wider appreciation of runway clothing and how much time and effort pieces take and the art behind it.

During my time at WFW'13 I made a stop motion video, took a few photos, met some amazing people, shot an outfit post for a friend, instagrammed heaps and loaded up on ALOT of free coffee.

Special mention goes to the boys at BrightBlack who organized the Jimmy D off site show which was absolutely killer, I was given the opportunity to shoot film for them at the event and the results should come through this week, hopefully I can work more with them in the near future.

Anyways now it's back to reality.

Recent Acquisitions; Nikon D600

So I finally have upgraded from my Nikon D3100 to the full frame Nikon D600. I have a new found love, this camera does exactly what I want it to and I've only had it for around a day.

The ISO range, oh wow don't get me started. I can pretty much shoot in a room that's near pitch black and be able to see everything with next to no grain or noise at all. The auto focus is so quick and snaps on to a subject as fast a kid on crack who is hypo and I don't even know what I'm saying anymore.

All I have to say is that, this camera is fucking amazing, I can't wait to go out and shoot more with it.

Being 18

Instagram Photo
So I've just aged another year but this one was a milestone. Turning 18 in New Zealand means you can legally purchase and drink alcohol, buy cigarettes, vote, gamble and do some other boring shit that no one likes to do.

I'm glad I've finally reached 18, most of my friends are and I'm the young one out of most. I got given some great gifts (mostly money) and I bought a shit ton of clothes and stuff;

Gigs; Home Brew

Last week I went and saw Home Brew preform live, they were performing at my university which was pretty cool. Lips and Tommy Ill also opened for them and it was a good show, didn't expect anything great and didn't expect anything shit. I took quite a few photos and I'm really happy with how they turned out. You can view them on my portfolio here.

They played many of their famous songs and it was only $30 which is very reasonably considering there was 3 acts.

Hope you guys have a great weekend.

Things I Like; I Love Ugly

So New Zealand has something in the mens fashion world to be really proud of.

'I Love Ugly' is a menswear brand/lifestyle that emerged from the humbling begins of the owner, Valentin Ozich printing his illustrations on t-shirts with his strong vision in mind; to create this brand and to be the best menswear brand in the world. I recently went to a talk at my university where Ozich was a guest speaker and talked about his brand and the story behind it. It was truly inspiring and made me want to write this article and want to start a brand of my own.

I myself do the street style photography for I Love Ugly down in Wellington though of recent times I have been a bit skeptical of the brand because of it being 'Made in China' and the name being tarnished by twelve year olds wearing Zespys halfway down their ass. After hearing to Valentin and what he had to say about the whole 'Made in China' issue it seems a lot brighter, workers are actually paid and treated well and the quality of the goods are very high. He said it was just impossible to keep the brand manufacturing in New Zealand anymore due to high costs, limited fabrics and craftsman and that New Zealand factories could not produce the volume of items they needed. This has now changed my whole idea of the brand and realized that these are really good factors for the move overseas and that it's about how you wear it.
